Get Your Feet Wet is now on the PBS KIDS Channel on Amazon Prime! You can also find it as part of Jim Henson’s Splash and Bubbles on PBS KIDS.
WHAT IS GET YOUR FEET WET?
GET YOUR FEET WET is a kid-sized documentary series that Sisbro wrote, directed and produced for The Jim Henson Company. These 20 short videos start with real kids asking questions about their world. Do ocean animals take baths? Does an octopus have a skeleton? What’s the biggest fish in the ocean? Then the questions are answered through funny and dynamic videos featuring incredible underwater wildlife footage (mostly filmed by Robert Sams at Sisbro) and awesome kids engaged in their communities. Originally filmed to accompany the animated series Splash and Bubbles, Get Your Feet wet is now its own series available on Amazon Prime.
WHERE DID YOU FILM THE SERIES?
Laura Sams Jordan and Robert Sams filmed segments underwater, on the shore, in classrooms and in aquariums around the globe. They filmed sea turtles in Saipan, kids in Oregon, kids at the Sanibel Sea School in Florida, rays and tide pools in Hawaii and more.
See the filmmakers Laura and Robert underwater! With sharks! And manta rays! And so so so many fish!
What’s the weirdest thing you filmed?
Well, Laura and Robert made one music video about parrotfish poop. Why? Because a lot of the white sand you see on gorgeous, white sandy beaches is actually…parrotfish poop. Laura and Robert wrote a song about it, and then went diving on coral reefs to try to film the actual moments when parrotfish were pooping. Do you want to know a tip about filming parrotfish pooping? Parrotfish wiggle their fins right before they poop.
A parrotfish poops out sand.
WHAT’S THE COOLEST THING YOU FILMED?
It’s really hard to say what the coolest thing is, because everything about the ocean is cool. Robert was able to film an octopus squeezing its body out of a tiny little hole in a bottle though. It was amazing.
Where can you watch Get Your Feet Wet?
You can find the series on the PBS KIDS Channel on Amazon Prime. And you can watch some on the SPLASH AND BUBBLES website!
What is Splash and Bubbles?
GET YOUR FEET WET was originally produced to be part of the series Splash and Bubbles, created by John Tartaglia (“ImaginOcean,” “Johnny and the Sprites”), SPLASH AND BUBBLES is designed to encourage kids ages 4-7 to explore the natural undersea world. Developed with an advisory panel of top marine biologists, digital innovators and educators, SPLASH AND BUBBLES is grounded in a marine biology curriculum that focuses on themes of diversity, individuality, interconnectedness and the celebration of learning and discovery. The series also introduces the concepts of ecological balance and the importance of taking care of the ocean.
“SPLASH AND BUBBLES emphasizes the important social-emotional skills needed to help kids discover the interconnectivity among all living creatures, while creating an understanding of the variety of life that exists under the sea, fostering an appreciation for the biodiversity in our ocean,” said Lesli Rotenberg, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Children’s Media and Education, PBS. “PBS KIDS is committed to using the power of media to build science skills to help inspire children to explore the fascinating world of marine biology and the wonder that makes up the majority of our planet’s surface.”
Funded in part by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, SPLASH AND BUBBLES follows the adventures of Splash, a yellow fusilier fish who has migrated all over the ocean before settling down in Reeftown, where he befriends Bubbles, a Mandarin dragonet whose vivid orange and electric blue coloring matches her colorful personality. Until Splash came along, Bubbles and most of the other Reeftown residents had no idea what lived beyond the cozy confines of their coral walls. Together, Splash, Bubbles and their friends explore the world’s undersea habitats, make new friends and learn about the many different ways life looks and lives in the ocean, celebrating the importance of diversity along the way.
